Why Is Laser Tag Such A Brilliant Team Activity Game?

If you are planning a team activity day, whether it is a party or a works-based event, laser tag can be a far better option than many alternative activities, combining teamwork and strategy with lots of fun while avoiding any pain.
Some activities may be seen as being more suited to some groups than others. For example, if you have a children’s party, you will be dealing with a group full of youthful energy. A stag party may be a little more mixed and a work group a lot more so.
However, some activities can be very flexible, with laser tag being one of them. On one level, it is a lot of fun. On another, it relies on teamwork. It should leave smiles on every face and bruises on nobody’s body.
When Was Laser Tag Invented?
The game itself has been around for nearly half a century and actually involves infrared light, not real lasers.
Its origins come from the ‘capture the flag’ games played by generations of children in the past, although the use of infrared ‘weapons’ arose from military training exercises in the 1970s. It was soon realised that it would be a waste to let the soldiers have all the fun.
Key features of the game include:
Players carry ‘laser guns’ and shoot at targets, usually infrared sensors worn by other participants
It combines elements of video games, escape rooms and team sport
Scoring is electronic, based on registered hits
The game can take place in various locations, from indoor maze-like arenas to dedicated outdoor sites
Mission-based objectives can be built into it, giving it a team element and building strategic thinking into efforts to win.
What Are The Advantages Of Laser Tag Over Other Games?
The last element can make it ideal for work team-building exercises, but it is never so serious that it cannot be part of a simple party game.
It also has a range of advantages over alternative games:
It does not require participants to wear protective equipment
There is no risk of pain from being hit as there is in games like paintball
No prior experience is required: it is as much fun for beginners as it is for veterans
Playing indoors means you can enjoy it at any time of the year and in any weather
You still get lots of exercise running around the arena
You can play whether your team or teams are small or large in number
This flexibility is what makes it so suitable for different occasions, while the pain-free aspect is an important consideration.
For example, if you are engaged in a team-building exercise at work, a game of paintball might just see two people who don’t get on well taking pot-shots at each other, returning to the office covered in bruises and nursing grudges. This is impossible with laser tag.
Instead, laser tag offers the best game of all, one that you will enjoy so much that you will want to come back again and again. Many people who come through our doors have been here before and can’t wait to get zapping away once again!
